Fable 13 · Guide 05 · Law firm

Building Hale & Meridian

The brief: a trust-heavy, conservative law-firm site with practice areas and attorney bios. The design risk here is restraint: in a collection full of WebGL, this site's boldest move is having almost no motion at all — trust is typographic.

The signature — practice areas as a legal brief

The practice section is literally structured as a brief: six roman-numbered areas with representative matters set as case-cite italics, and a sticky "In this brief" index whose current section is tracked by an IntersectionObserver scrollspy — the reading experience of a well-tabbed binder.

Colour & type

ledger #f7f4ec
oxford #16233a
seal #8c2f22
gilt #9c7c3c

Libre Caslon — Display for headlines, Text for body — because when in doubt, lawyers set Caslon. Seal red is spent only on the italic phrase, the roman numerals, and the one button that matters. The scales of justice are a single hand-drawn SVG; the engraved double rule divides hero from brief, as it would on a letterhead.

Conduct

The consult form promises conflicts review before substance and a candid "we are not the right firm" — process copy as trust signal. The footer carries a real attorney-advertising disclaimer, adapted honestly for a fictional firm. Motion (motion.dev) contributes only dignified fades and slow counters; the partners' portraits hold at 75% grayscale until hovered, like photographs kept out of direct sun.
